Welcome to Purgatory!
I’m Jayden, the owner of Purgatory.
Purgatory is a brand that I’ve been developing for quite a few years, the idea came to me from the skateboarding community, where individualism and self expression is in abundance. I was fixated on the idea of starting my own brand, however I lacked the foundational skills to be able to develop any graphics. So I joined an art course and by the end of it I finished with an extended diploma and my first graphic. From that point on I have been on a higher level course still developing my brand along side it, all graphics seen are made and printed all from within my course.
What is Purgatory About?
Purgatory is an alternative and dark art inspired brand, that values character and identity.
When I started Purgatory I knew from the very beginning that I didn’t want to be like a mainstream brand that does minimal effort graphics and charge ridiculous prices for a piece of clothing. So putting the prices as reasonable as possible has been a vision all the way throughout the finding of Purgatory.
Additionally, I wanted to add character to my graphics giving them depth and authenticity. I joined my art course to find my niche and I was drawn towards dark art, heavily inspired by media I see online, in games and in shows, I also just really enjoyed drawing skeletons. I found emotion is a driving force for my art and really gives me that motivation to develop a good piece.
I believe that if you try to incorporate yourself and your emotions into whatever you’re doing, it will naturally be better as the results are shown in the end product and is you at your essence. Each of graphics are filled with my identity as an artist and as a person, so each one has great thought and meaning put into it.
The process for the graphics from start to finish is done all by me. the drawing, designing and printing is all my work. I prioritise being able to be involved with the whole development to further the character of the brand, this gives it all that unique look. From the drawing being distinct from any fast fashion, to the designing to get it all composed and looking how I envisioned and the final step being printing my designs onto the shirts.
The printing process I use is screen printing, which is gives a quality print and gives each shirt a personality.
I value seeing people wear Purgatory as it shows an appreciation for my artwork meaning they like it enough to go to the length to wear it, showing a respect that means a lot to me.
There are many plans for Purgatory, so keep an eye out for more!
